Angaben zur Abhaltung
In this module, students will increase their ability to function in the foreign language without great effort and largely fluently by working with more complexly-structured and challenging listening and reading texts on topics from ecology, economics, sociology, etc. They will augment their proficiency at differentiating between types of texts and writing styles, identifying implicitly formulated opinions and examining modern literary texts following a prescribed interpretive method. They practice analyzing, structurally condensing and taking detailed positions on texts both inside and outside their fields of study and gathering detailed information from longer speeches, lectures, reports, etc. They learn to differentiate the nuances of meaning in related expressions and to understand a multitude of figures of speech. They develop a differentiated repertoire of means of expression for a broad spectrum of current topics and popular scientific questions that goes beyond standard language. They work with selected grammatical particularities such as the possibilities of nominalizing and the nominal style, textual coherence, the various forms of indirect speech, word formation variants or the function of the pronoun “es”. Students critically examine positions within public discourse, including their cultural specificity. They deal with selected aspects of culture and cultural life in Germany.
Sound knowledge of C1.1; assessment test level C1.2
The module is aimed at level C1 of the CEFR. Students acquire knowledge of German as a foreign language at a high written-language level with a focus on intercultural, cultural and academic areas. They can understand the content of complex articles and reports, even outside their own specialist areas and areas of interest independently and predominantly without effort and identify points of view. They are capable of interpreting a contemporary prose text and can follow current television reports, most films and a contemporary play, even when idiomatic language is used. Students can understand the details of longer discussions and lectures on contemporary topics as well as specialist lectures inside and outside their fields. They are able to take detailed and logical positions on current developments in science and technology, as well as to compose longer presentations in their fields of study in which they use scientific structures and specialized vocabulary correctly. They can lecture or present on topics in their areas of interest or fields of study in clearly structured, understandable and academically-appropriate fashion and can exchange complex information in discussions, make allusions, differentiate emotions and employ irony.
German

The module consists of a seminar in which course objectives will be achieved in a praxis-oriented, communicative atmosphere through listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises in individual, partner and group work. The fundamental language skills conveyed in the classroom are reinforced through the use of guided self-learning in the form of prepared (and online) materials. Participants work on assigned topics independently and/or in teams and revise their work after receiving feedback.
