Angaben zur Abhaltung
First, conversion concepts for heat production and utilization from solar energy are introduced and compared. It is focused on collector systems such as Parabolic Trough and Fresnel systems as well as solar tower concepts. Additionally, conventional and innovative cycle processes for power generation from solar heat are introduced (e.g. ORC, Rankine cycle).
For this, needed knowledge in the field of working and heat transfer fluids are elaborated in the lecture.

In addition to purely solar-powered plants, the possibility of hybridization is discussed. With the aim of a continuous power generation, a focus is placed on heat and electricity storage.

Besides an overview of existing projects an outlook on future projects and technologies is given.

Lecture accompanying tutorials are held and a Matlab exercise for designing a solar thermal process is offered to be examined individually by the students.
Profound basics in Thermodynamics, Energy Systems and Power Plant Technology
(1) Understanding of solarthermal power plants
(2) Knowledge of the cycle architecture
(3) Knowledge in heat transfer media and working media for cycles processes
(4) Overview on energy storage systems with the focus on thermal energy storage
(5) Economic factors of solarthermal power plants
The lecture is supported by a power point presentation. The lecture notes are based on the slides of the presentation.
