The project of the Chair of Building Realization and Robotics deals with the development and implementation of solution approaches in the fields of construction robotics and ambient assisted living (AAL) and their combination.

Exemplary task could deal e.g. with the development and / or implementation of innovative concepts, strategies and solutions for:
- various areas of construction robotics in which, for example, by using robots, e.g. the degree of automation can be increased, the construction processes optimized and the efficiency in construction improved, e.g. in prefabrication, logistics, modernization, etc.,
- the design of future vertical cities, which are possible through the interdisciplinary approach of construction automation and robotics and can also be designed as a sophisticated organism, which has the ability to constantly and flexibly transform throughout its lifecycle in response to economy shifts, demographic change, and environmental pressures,
- the implementation of modular assistance systems (integrated robotic systems and / or information and communication technologies (ICT)) in an age-appropriate living environment to improve daily activity and increase the quality of life for a self-determined and independent life,
- linking both interdisciplinary areas (construction robotics and AAL) in order to address the issues related to the automation of assistance systems and / or the further development of those to increase safety and health in the construction sector.
In addition to the master project, a project-related seminar with 2 SWS is to be attended in the same semester.

Recommended previous knowledge from the modules:
- Automation & Robotics in Construction (ARC);
- Building System Performance (BSP);
- Frontier Engineering & Management (FEM).
After successful participation in the project, students are able to:
- identify the right scope from a given task, determine the requirements, grasp the objectives and formulate the solutions,
- structure, coordinate and reflect on the complex design processes independently within a given period of time,
- select, analyze and adapt the information and scientific references required to solve the given task,
- transfer their obtained knowledge of conceptual design from the field of robotics and / or Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) to practical tasks, and develop own ideas and solutions,
- lead a critical discourse on architectural and design issues,
- present, document and communicate the own design, concept and solutions through various forms of presentation (e.g., drawings, simulations, visualizations, etc.) and scientific documentation.

The processing of the task is largely self-study. Depending on the workload and the current task, in some cases it may be useful to work together in an interdisciplinary group.

In addition to the project, in the project-related seminar (it is envisaged that the project-related seminar will be attended in the same semester), fundamentals will be imparted, which are in the context of the project and relevant to conduct the task. The obtained knowledge should be further studied through independent research of literature review and further material, so that the students gain a scientific foundation for their designs and concepts. Weekly reviews with the supervising lecturer as well as the presentation of the interim results and the discussions during the semester promote the critical discourse and the reflection of one's own work. The presentation of the individual achievements requires the demonstration of one's own ideas in the framework of presentable media. Additionally, it shows the students whether these selected media are suitable for communicating their ideas and also gives an overview of other approaches and forms of presentation. The written documentation requires an efficient and presentable structure of the content, trains the vocabulary and demands the use of scientific texts.

Learning Mode (for SS 2020 due to COVID-19 context):

The course was in TUM-Online enabled as E-Learning Kurs (Moodle). All instructions (including teaching materials, lectures, tasks, etc.) will be provided in Moodle; face-to-face meetings (on-desk critique meetings, intermediate and final presentations, etc.) will be carried out on Adobe Connect (which has a direct link with Moodle; invitations to the face-to-face meetings in Adobe Connect will be provided to students in Moodle).
