The role of water resources management, from the point of view of hydraulic engineering, is to record, describe and manage water availability, both in quantity and temporal distribution. The random occurrence of natural events and the interaction of climate, weather, topography, geology and other catchment areas' characteristics require the use of complex methods. In order to satisfy today's requirements, this range of topics can only be mastered by an interdisciplinary co-operation of several professional fields. So the course include many aspects of water resources management, flood protection schemes and modelling techniques, precipitation-runoff-models, reservoir management, flood statistics and (if there is enough time) optimization schemes for water supply reservoirs.
Intention/aim of the course:
The course is intended to contribute a better understanding of engineering and management practice in the hydrosystem field and to learn and apply the basic tools in Water Resources Management. Thus a sustainable use of the water resources and planning in a responsible manner is possible.
